Study with Us

Choice and flexibility

Marylebone qualifications are modular to allow flexibility. You can opt to:

  • study a single course without committing yourself further,
  • take several courses, one after the other, until you have a qualification,
  • take a break between courses if you need to,
  • mix and match courses to reflect your interests.

Whatever qualification you want, we recommend you start at Level 1. If you're new to study or haven't studied for a while, doing a short, introductory course first will help to build your confidence and develop essential study skills.

Getting credit for previous study

Don't forget that you may be able to claim points for previous study at higher education level and achieve your qualification faster. Ask at our Admissions Office for more information on Credit Transfer.

Getting a qualification

You need:

  • 60 points for a certificate,
  • 120 points for a diploma,
  • 240 points for an Associate degree,
  • 360 points for a Bachelor degree.

Our certificates and diplomas are a way of marking your achievement on the way to gaining a degree. Most students study part-time and do 30 or 60 points a year. If you are able to study full-time, the maximum points you may study in a single year is 120. In your first year we advise you to take no more than 60, especially if you have not been in higher education recently (or ever).

Points and Levels that make up a qualification

Within all our qualifications you need to study at different Levels and there are:

  • compulsory courses that must be taken to gain the qualification,
  • lists of courses that you must choose from, and
  • some qualifications also have free choice options.

A typical BA or BSc degree would look like this:

Level 1 - 60 points OR Level 1 - 120 points
Level 2  - 180 points   Level 2 - 120 points
Level 3 - 120 points   Level 3 - 120 points
Total - 360 points   Total - 360 points

We recommend you progress through the increasing levels of difficulty by starting at Level 1.

In many subject areas, a dissertation may be substituted for up to 120 credits, with a maximum of 60 credits being substituted at level 3.
