Choosing a Course Choosing your first courseIntroductionThe majority of our students are working towards
a qualification but, if you're not sure about what you want, you don't
have to make decisions about qualifications when you first start. You
can seek advice and guidance at any point during your studies.
How much time you needOur individual course descriptions (see prospectus) give you the start
and finish dates. To give you some idea of the time you need, bear in
mind that, regardless of level, it takes approximately 10 hours of
study for each credit point. Some courses are intensive - for example 10 point, residential school courses. Some are less intensive - for
example, studying 30 points over 9 months. Here are some examples of
Level 1 courses:
Most students study part-time, do 60 points a year, and take six years to complete a Bachelor degree (360 points) or four years for an Associate degree. Certificates and diplomas with fewer points, take proportionately less time. If you're new to undergraduate studyIf you're new to study or haven't studied for a while, a 10 point, Level 1 course is a good place to start. It will introduce you to a subject area and help you to develop essential study skills. They take up to 20 weeks and they're fascinating courses in their own right, even if you don't want to take your studies further.
